Course Programme 22nd August - 4th September, 2010 Lingua del Canto This programme focuses on the importance of the Italian language in the evolution of the Bel Canto method of singing through the ages. It is aimed at voice students intending to pursue a professional career or professionals wishing to improve their Italian diction. Serious beginners are also welcome. The course puts emphasis on communication, vocal style and performance skills, and takes place in the beautiful mountain territory of Montefeltro, in the Marches, way off the tourist route near San Marino and fifty minutes from Rimini and the Adriatic beaches. The basic structure of the programme is as follows: 4 x 1 hr individual coaching with Maestro Ubaldo Fabbri 4 x 1 hr individual coaching with Donatella Dorsi 2 x 1 hr coaching with accompanists 4 x 1hr classes in phonetics for singing in Italian Additional rehearsal & staging time 15 hrs tuition in the Italian language in small classes. 1 ½ hours every morning, Mon - Friday (if numbers permit there will be 2 hours every morning) 6 x 1hr classes in phonetics for singing in Italian Public Performance in the 19th century Teatro Sociale, Novafetria This two week "total immersion" course will vastly improve your Italian interpretation giving it new shades of expression. Both Maestro Fabbri's coaching lessons and Donatella' Dorsi's are conducted entirely in Italian and they will reconstruct your diction, while Maestro Fabbri's phonetics classes will explain exactly how the Italian sounds are produced. (They also speak enough English to translate where necessary and make you feel at ease.) With all this plus the language lessons every week-day morning, we promise you will leave with a real "feel" for the language. This is a small, friendly course (numbers will be between 10 and 15 maximum) where singers receive real personal attention. We organise excursions to the surrounding countryside. There are plenty of opportunities for relaxation. You can enjoy the café on the main square and the Italian cuisine in the town's typical restaurants. We hope you will have a very enjoyable stay and will consider this an Italian holiday as well as an extremely rewarding experience for your singing. Coaching sessions and rehearsals will be held in the well-equipped Palazzo Lombardini, formerly the Novafeltria Secondary School and at the beautiful Teatro Sociale, Novafeltria, across the street from each other in the centre of town, which will soon become a year round Opera Academy for Belcanto Diction, Phrasing and Expression, to be known as the Voci nel Montefeltro (Voices of Montefeltro) founded and directed by Ubaldo Fabbri. There are ample possibilities for practice time. Fiona Macleod is a very accomplished young accompanist for you to work with and there are ample possibilities for individual practice time.
